Top Ten Signs a Work of Fiction Was Written By Me
I posted this over on my LJ, but I though you all might like to see it. What would you add to this list? It’ll be interesting to see how a readers’ perspective might be different.
1) Things/people aren’t always what they seem. This theme runs through a lot of my stories.
2) Alpha male (from still-waters-runs deep to dark and tortured). I love a good Alpha male as long as he is intelligent and has character dimension, ie, he’s portrayed with flaws and doesn’t come across as a jerk.
3) Strong females. You can’t write an alpha male without a heroine who can match him. Otherwise, he’d walk all over her. Sometimes my females are physically strong (kickass), sometimes they are mentally strong. Either way, she’s always a great challenge to the Alpha male, keeping him on his toes.
4) Sensuality. My books will definitely kick that sexual tension up several notches. Oh, and there’s hot love scenes, too.
5) Mystery/Suspense. There’s usually a mystery subplot running through my books. I like to take you in one direction only to throw you in another.
6) Action. There’s going to be violence in my books, re: fight scenes/chase scenes/actions scenes. People get hurt. The more books I write, the more action scenes I’ve included.
7) People die in my books. Most of the time it’s a bad guy, but sometimes it’s someone close to the main character(s).
8 ) Fast moving, witty banter. Love to write this!
9) Ironic/Sarcastic humor. My books can be very intense and dark, so there’s always humor sprinkled in the story to lighten things up from time to time.
10) Series – I usually write in series. Each story reads as is stand alone, but my secondary characters are usually so strong that they insist on their own stories (demanding people!).
