Sprint, then run!
Today I worked on polishing off the partial and synopsis for the third book in my Scions series. When I’m working on a partial or a full manuscript, I feel like I’m sprinting to my goal, but as I get closer to my deadline** I feel as if I’m in a full on run to that finish line. While the rush is exciting to finally reach my goal, it’s also exhausting because I feel like I just now have a chance to catch my breath. Usually the night I reach my goal, I’ll relax by watching a DVD or reading a book, but rarely do I spend that evening working on the same book. Tonight is no different…except, instead of reading or watching a DVD, I’m working on another writing project. It’s nice to have that change of pace from the other book I’d been working on.
For any authors reading this, what do you do when you reach you books’ milestones? Do you take a quick break after you’ve written and sent of the partial/synopsis? Or do you keep plugging and then only take a break when the book is completed?
** Authors who have sold on proposal usually have deadlines for partials (first 3 chapters and synopsis) and deadlines for fulls (the completed manuscript).
