A while back, I asked Paperback Writer which work she was most proud of and why. My question got me to thinking about my own past works and how I would’ve answered that question if I had been asked.
I’d have to say I’m most proud of A TASTE FOR CONTROL. Why? Because the novel encompasses the type of novel I’d always like to write– a great story with tons of twists and turns, a wonderful romance that tugs at your heart and secondary characters full of depth that make the hero and heroine’s story so much stronger for their existance. Do I think it could be improved…yep, there’s always room for improvement. Ask any author out there who has written a book. I think every one of them would tell you that they could go back and improve every single novel they’ve written because of the knowledge they’ve gained in the process of writing several more works since that novel was penned. I think it’s in authors’ nature to be our own worst critics. *g* I guess with A TASTE FOR CONTROL I felt I’d truly found my stride in my writing with that story…that I’d learned to go deeper, make the plot twists even more dimensional and create some fun secondary characters. My world building took on more intriguing depth as well. Don’t get me wrong, I think I’ve done this with my other novels in the past, but I felt that I had finally “gotten” it with A Taste for Control…well, at least the overall betterment of my story and characters’ arcs. I STILL have a lot to learn, and no matter how many books I write, I think I’ll always be learning, always be striving to better my writing.
For authors reading this post, what novel are you most proud of and why? And for any readers checking out this blog, if you’ve read my vampire novels, which Kendrian novel did you like the best?
I keep meaning to buy A Taste for Control. Now I REALLY have to!
Great topic. I used my answer for my blog post tomorrow.
I’m not sure which book I’m the most proud of. I think it’s kind of like picking a favorite child. I really liked Gothic Passions because it was my first attempt at a historical and a vampire novel. I like the novel I sold to Tor because it was a departure from my other books. I guess I tend to like the books where I’ve stretched myself in my writing.
My favorite one of your vamps was the second book, A Taste for Revenge, but I’ve enjoyed all three.
Hi Charli! I hope you enjoy A TASTE FOR CONTROL. Looking forward to your post tomorrow!
I KNEW you were going to say Gothic Passions, Jordan. I remember in the past you saying it was one of the hardest books you’d written because of all the research you’d put into it. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed A Taste for Revenge. Ian has a special place in my heart as my very first Irish hero.
