Today’s post is about backing up! Heck yeah, backing up! Don’t forget to save your data. I’m making today, SAVE your DATA day! As some of you know I recently lost my harddrive. Fortunately I was able to quickly update my current WIPs and all my Word docs, but I didn’t get to save other things that really matter in life, like my digital pictures. Ugh! Thankfully I have some of them saved on CDs but not all…*wails*.
Without my PC I’ve felt so disconnected. This kind of reminds me of when we moved and I had to “rewire” my mind back to writing mode after we finally settled, moved in and unpacked. Thankfully I had readers constantly asking about the book I was working on…which helped keep me motivated, too. But I found what helped me the most was just sitting down and writing everyday. By doing so I worked through the kinks of getting back into “writing mode”. That book was Embrace the Moon and I loved it when I was done with it!
So sticking to it was worth it.
I think I’ll be doing that again once I get my new PC up and running–blitz writing for a while. I’m sure my readers will thank me. They’ve been waiting on the last installment of a story I am writing on my Yahoo group! Not to mention a paranormal I’ve been working on. LOL!
For those writers reading this post, what about you…when something throws off your “writing muse” what do you do to get back into the writing “zone”?

I’m really careful about saving data. I save on my little usb key, and on floppy disks (though not any more - my floppys all got corrupted)
AND I save my work online. There are lots of places that you can find to save documents. You can upload yuor work, and it will stay there, free, and uncorrupted, for as long as you like.

When my muse gets thrown off (like switching from Fae to cowboys!) I sit down and force myself to write. Just get it down. Sometimes I’ll make myself go to a coffe house or a bookstore so that I’m away from the distractions of the internet. That usually really helps!

Crowbar and duct tape with the right amount of applied force. *ggg*

Sam, yeah, I’m going to be super hyper about backing up now! Eeek!

Whenever my muse decides to take a hike on me I usually go to my bookshelf and grab one of my writing books like Stephen King’s On Writing, or any of the other writing book out there that lets me know I’m not alone in the “need motivated” world we writers live in :o)I’ll read a chapter or two sometimes 3 until I feel that itch that we get when we just have to start writing or we’ll freak. LOL :o)

Hi Karen,
I never thought of reading a book about writing to get my muse going. I’ll have to try that some time.
