When I sit down to write a book, I don’t typically have my critique partners read over it until I’m done with it. Then I send them the whole book at once. But if I’m working on a partial to try and sell the book that way, then I have my critique partners read over the first three chapters, then I’ll edit it and send it back for another review. I’ve never been one of those authors who has my CP work on a chapter at a time. I guess because sometimes I’ll go back and brush up the first part of the book based on how I ended the book…for clarity, continuity, etc. Also, I think it has to do with the fact I prefer to crit a book from beginning to end. That way I don’t miss out on continuity issues, dropped threads, etc which could happen if I read the book a bit at a time. Plus, being the impatient reader I am, I WANT to know what happens. Heh
If you’re an author reading this…what’s your process for writing a book? Has that process evolved over time?

Hey, Patrice. I’m out blog-hopping other writers’ blogs. I looooove your cover for A TASTE OF CONTROL. Wow, is that beautiful.

Oops, I didn’t get around to answering your question.
I used to belong to a critique group where we all brought our work-in-progress. Usually I brought a chapter at a time. And that worked well for me at the time.
Now that I am married to another writer, however, I work completely differently. My husband is an excellent critiquer. And I have him review either a proposal just before I submit, or the whole book.

Hi Kara! *waving*
Thanks for stopping by my blog. And thanks so much for the compliments on A TASTE FOR CONTROL’s cover. It was recently nominated for Best Cover Art by The Romance Studio. Syneca is the cover artist and she’s fantastic! I hope the cover wins. Syneca deserves the kudos!
It’s wonderful that your husband crits for you. That would be awesome to have in a partner.

I know I’m going to end up as spam, but here I go. ;-)
I have one crit partner who reads my books chapter by chapter, and then two (guess who one of them is! *g*) who read when the whole thing is done. But a partial, yes, then I would have my crit partners read that. Um, gonna have a partial done after these edits…. :-)

I like having my critique partners read the story after I’ve finished the entire book for the very reasons you mention. That way even the smaller things aren’t overlooked.

Chey, I didn’t know Annie reads your book a chapter at a time.
As I said, I’m an impatient reader..good thing you send me your books for crit fully written or I’d be chomping at the bit for the “rest of the story”, hounding you daily! *g*
